Complete Home Revamp – A Transformation of Space and Light

Greg Long Services undertook a comprehensive renovation project that reimagined every corner of this home, blending modern functionality with respect for its original character.

The heart of the transformation lay in the kitchen and living areas. Interior walls were demolished to create a spacious open-plan lounge, dining, and kitchen space. The kitchen itself was extended into what was once a mud room, adding flow and practicality.

Bathrooms were given equal attention. The guest bathroom, once divided between a separate toilet and bath, was reconfigured into a single, elegant space. In the main bathroom, the door was widened and the bath removed to achieve a lighter, more contemporary design.

Preserving the home’s heritage was a guiding principle. Original oregon pine flooring, hidden for years beneath carpets, tiles, and laminates, was revealed, carefully reinforced, and restored. Damaged boards were replaced with aged timber, ensuring a seamless match throughout.

Craftsmanship added further distinction. A custom-made wooden front door and two bespoke steel security gates were installed, while new ceilings and cornices were fitted in most rooms, subtly elevating the interiors. In contrast, the ceilings in the two guest bedrooms and passage were preserved and carefully rennovated to retain the home’s authenticity.

Outdoor living was reimagined as well. An enclosed patio was reopened, with original brickwork retained and supplemented with additional bricks to honour the home’s age. Stairs leading down to the patio now create a natural extension of the interior.

Every detail was considered: electrical and plumbing systems were fully upgraded; a fireplace was converted to gas; air conditioning was added in the main bedroom; and energy-efficient, dimmable lighting was introduced throughout. To meet modern needs, a solar system was installed to counter loadshedding, alongside an automated garage door and a kitchen water purification system for safe drinking water. The external palisade fencing was also reinforced to improve safety for the family’s dogs.

The result is a home that is no longer boxy and dark, but open, light-filled, and contemporary — while still honouring its original character. It is a living space designed for comfort, style, and longevity.
